Custom High Voltage High Speed Switching Devices

Our expertise is in the area of very fast switching of high voltages with high current to the load.  We have done customer-specified designs for a variety of applications in this general area. We invite you to contact us about your need.  Our core competence is in pulses with
  • high voltage (kV), 
  • fast edges (ns),
  • high rep rate (MHz) and 
  • high current (A to 100’s of A).  
  • Power modulators using all of the above

Our first project was undertaken at the request of  the United States Department of Energy, LBL Scientific and Anodyne Research to jointly develop a high-speed,  high-power high-voltage pulse generator.    We are still waiting for funding and have taken on other designs while waiting. This pulser will produce 20 kV pulses with under 5 ns edges and sink up to 50 A.

Recent projects have included
  • Multi kV, 50 ns. width pulses driven into a 100 pF. load at > 5 MHz.. This pulse generator requires liquid cooling to dissipate the switching power!
  • High power electronic switch to simulate line transients  with fast edges and fully variable duty cycle
  • A device to ignite a plasma in a tube.  It drives a high capacitance (200 pF) and is protected from over load.
  • Alpha particle based air ionizer for static charge control.
  • A detector capable of identifying EMI transients from electrostatic discharge and the characteristics of each discharge.
